Unfortunately, this happened to Asia’s Top 50 Apps nomination, presented by Singtel Innovation Exchange, and e27 as the organizer.

Interestingly, e27 community manager posted a blunt story about their flawed voting system.

I like how the story revealed things from an organizer perspective. However, he is admitting to his mistake, and yet not doing anything about it. Quoted:

Go ahead, do it. We probably won’t find out.  Keep it up, kudos to you. You’ll probably end up on the top of the list and be awarded the People’s Choice Award.

Since the voting system is not going to be fixed, there are only 2 possibilities:

1. No one cheated (because developers have integrity!)
2. Someone cheated

Since (2) is always a possibility, whoever turn out as the winner, will also turn out to be a cheater/loser..

I thought, since that is the case, I might as well submit my SG Blood and curl it to be the winner.

No one going to dispute a non-profitable app winning for a good cause, right?

iDon8 is an iPhone app that I have developed together with the folks at The Blood Alliance.

The Blood Alliance is a community blood bank in the US, and services hospitals in Northeast Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

This project comes about after I have developed SG Blood – the blood donation app for Singapore.

And I am very proud to say that iDon8 has surpassed what I have done with SG Blood. iDon8 is slick, shiny and packed with more features for donors!

Just like my other apps that have gone v2, SG Blood is upgrading to v2 too!

SG Blood is an app for blood donor, and was first released in Jan 2009. I didn’t update the app much over the year, partly because it works well and has no bugs, and partly because I have no improvement planned for it.

But today, I am proud to announce a new feature for the app: Checking blood stock level!

The feature is kindly provided by donorweb.

I had an interview with mypaper 《我报》 in an article on 18 Mar, 2010. They have interviewed me over the SG Blood app that I had developed one year ago.

I have always reminded myself what a friend once said:

You do not have to be a teacher to contribute to society. Everyone has his own ways.

Creating SG Blood is my way, using my skills as an iPhone developer.

  SG Blood is an iPhone application that I have developed for regular or new blood donors.

I had this idea of developing blood donation app when I know about the Nuffnang blood donation drive. I did not participate in the bloggers blood donation, but I did feel how heart warming it is when a community set out to do something good.

I hope iPhone community can achieve a similar feat.

Lastly, you might not like certain ways the app works. But there is only one objective for the app:

SG Blood provides the calendar for Bloodmobile events, giving donors the convenient of planning where and when they want to contribute. The details for the 2 permanent blood donation centres – HSA and NUH – are also available within the app. A simple FAQ also helps to address the questions that new donors would like to know.
