You’re working on a sketch and want to check an angle. You could guess, or go looking for a protractor. Your phone is already beside you.
With iPhone Duo, you can pick it up and fold it to match the lines on the page. That’s the idea behind Protractor° Duo, our new angle-measuring app.
iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The hinge lets you open up a larger screen and fold it away again, but it also gives the phone something useful for measuring: two halves that move relative to each other.
Open them a little and you have a narrow angle. Open them further and the angle grows. The phone can report how far its hinge is open, so an app can put a number to that movement. A folding phone is a surprisingly good shape for a protractor.
Back to your sketch. Open Protractor° Duo, stand the phone on its bottom edges, and line up one edge with each line on the paper. Fold until they match, then read the angle on screen.

The same idea works away from the page. Say you’re making a cardboard model and want to check the opening between two panels. Rest one half of the phone against each panel and adjust the fold to fit.
If you’re comparing a few openings, tap Record to save each reading. They’re kept on your device in History, so you can put the phone down, carry on with the model, and look them up later.
These are quick estimates. The phone’s rounded edges, its case, and how carefully you line it up all affect the result. For a precise cut or fit, use a dedicated measuring tool.
But for that occasional angle you want to check while making something, the hinge gives the phone in your pocket a useful little job.
Protractor° Duo is available now, only for iPhone Duo.
